Our previous research indicated that ether triggers reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and activates ethylene biosynthetic genes and defense gene expressions in tomato. In the present study, we investigated the effect of ether on cell responses and gene expressions in Arabidopsis and compared the ROS and phytohormones produced in Arabidopsis and tomato plants in response to different air pollutants (O3 vs. ether).
