Nine fluorescence parameters (A Fv/Fm, REo/ETo, ETo/ABS; B ETo/CS, PIabs, PItot, abs; C DIo/CSo, DIo/ABS, DIo/RC) derived from the average chlorophyll fluorescence transients of Fig. 6A in relation to N content (1.30, 1.32, 1.65, 1.99, 2.15 and 2.79 g m−2) in tea leaves. Fv/Fm: Maximum quantum yield of primary photochemistry; REo/ETo: Efficiency with which an electron can move from the reduced intersystem; ETo/ABS: Quantum yield for electron transport; ETo/CS:Electron transport flux per CS; PIabs: Performance index (PI) on absorption basis; PItot, abs: Total PI, measuring the performance up to the PSI end electron acceptors; DIo/CSo: Dissipated energy flux per CS; DIo/ABS: Quantum yield for energy dissipation; DIo/RC: Dissipated energy flux per RC. All the values were expressed relative to the sample treated with 6000 μM N set as 1
